Phyllis Ma (b. 1987, Guangzhou, China) is a Chinese-American artist based in Switzerland. She graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a major in Visual Arts.
Her ongoing series, Mushrooms & Friends, features foraged and cultivated fungi, often in arrangements with flowers, food and animals. Beyond photography, Phyllis often collaborates with mycologists, cultivators and foragers to identify and better understand the fungi she encounters.
Phyllis’s work has appeared in National Geographic, The New Yorker, The Guardian and other publications. Commercial clients include The New Yorker, Netflix, SSENSE, Cartoon Network and A24.
